The GSBC+Invest Bond Basics virtual course provides portfolio managers and individuals new to bank investments training on the mechanics and fundamentals of fixed-income investments from a community-banking perspective. Bond Basics is a preparatory course for the investment and bond portfolio curriculum taught at the GSBC+Invest Community Bank Performance Institute.

Course Objectives

Modules include:

  • The Basics of a Bond
  • Understanding Yield
  • Investment Portfolio Risks
  • Intro to Fixed-Income Securities
  • Intro to Portfolio Management

Bond Basics is an online, self-paced course taking users approximately 18-20 hours to complete, and includes video instruction, five module quizzes and a cumulative exam. Users also gain access to a workbook to aid in their learning. Users have access to the course for six (6) months after they register.

Bond Basics is a beginner-level course that is best suited for portfolio managers, individuals tangentially involved in investments and directors of community banks.

Bond Basics is a preparatory course for the investment and bond portfolio curriculum taught at the GSBC+Invest Community Bank Performance Institute. Those who have taken Bond Basics or intend to are eligible for a $200 discount on CBPI!

Digital Credentialing

Chris Nelson is president of Nelson Capital Advisors, an investment advisory firm serving community-based financial institutions. He has been involved in banking and investments for almost 30 years, formerly serving as the chief investment officer and director of finance & treasury for a New England-based community bank.
